Last night, I had the honor of playing again for the Saginaw City Rescue Mission Banquet. There were over 700 attendees, and very few empty chairs. My friend Gene Riley was the MC and lead us in the closing song “America the Beautiful” and it made me think. What is it that makes this country great? It is our Christian heritage and values that have made this country what it is.

Below is a passage quoted by Mark Swanson last evening:

Isaiah 1:16-20 “Wash yourselves, make yourselves clean; Put away the evil of your doings from before My eyes. Cease to do evil,17 Learn to do good; Seek justice, Rebuke the oppressor; Defend the fatherless, Plead for the widow. 18 “Come now, and let us reason together,” Says the LORD, “Though your sins are like scarlet, They shall be as wool. 19 If you are willing and obedient, You shall eat the good of the land; 20 But if you refuse and rebel, You shall be devoured by the sword”; For the mouth of the LORD has spoken.

Wow! If you just read that, it is a blessing or a curse, depending on what we DO.

I can’t help but think about the advertisement in the ’70’s where the Native American is canoing in the polluted river, and tears are falling from his eyes. -That must be the way God looks upon us, with tears, as He is grieved by America’s moral pollution.

Keep America Beautiful! Turn from evil. Do Good!
